My UC Was Finally Controlled

RandellIntroduction:

Hello All,
Methylprednisolone finally stopped my UC Flareup!!!
I wanted that line first b/c maybe it will help others.
My name is Randell and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 1992. I work in the Engineering field which is one of the most stressful jobs there are. Always deadlines on top of deadlines. And of course the budget has to be met on that date or it’s a double whammy on your career and even your own self appreciation.

Some more about me:

I had some friends that tried to embarrass me – which let me know who my true friends are. A blessing in disguise.

Symptoms:

I had Bleeding for 3 months followed by explosive watery diarrhea and stomach pain/cramps.

My UC Was Finally Controlled

My `flareups’ have been limited to occasional bleeding which I would take Rowasa Enemas over the past 20 years and the bleeding would go away. Well, this time the bleeding stayed for 3 months and when I finally got it stopped the major `flareup’ with explosive diarrhea/stomach cramps started! Wow talk about a life changer. The ER Dr. put me on Prednisone but that didn’t help. My Family Dr. put me on Methylprednisolone…AND THAT WORKED!!! Along with our prayers of course. I have been diarrrhea free for 2 days and counting. Stomach cramps are dissipating as well. Having this major Flareup really opened my eyes as to the dibilitating effects of this disease. We need to have a voting block as this disease should be recognized as a disibility. It is not just an embarresment to have to run from the back of a stores parking lot to the restroom it’s dangerous. I truly believe that handicap placards should be used for people with this disease. Another note is that I used Probiotics and ate `soft foods’ only for the entire 3 weeks, but it was as soon as I used the Methyprednisolone that my symptoms started clearing. Happiness is a solid stool!!!

Good Luck to everyone on this site as when I found this site it was a life changer as well. I read some of your stories and it made me change my attitude and for the first time confront the fact taht I have UC and I have to learn to live with it as normal as possible. Don’t let this disease beat your life!! Have the attitude that, hey, I am eating, maybe not cheeseburgers but I am eating, I am alive – bc I can eat bananas and drink water and they are good for me! God Bless you all for being my Rock!!!i

Medications:

Cortisone enemas – didn’t work
Asacol – didn’t work
Rowasa Enemas – controls the bleeding very good
Prednisone – didn’t work on the `flareup’
Methylprednisilone – WORKED! on the `flareup’!!!
