6-MP has been a common ulcerative colitis medication for many years and these are all stories which have been submitted from UC’ers who also have experience with this powerful medicine. Not all parts of the world use the trade name 6-MP, it is often known by other names such as: Purinethol, Purixan, and 6 mercaptapurine.
My current meds are Lialda, canasa as needed, prednisone, and 6mp. In an effort to aid the meds with natural supplements, I also take a really good food based prenatal vitamin, 4000iu of D3, ginger for nausea, and a QBC complex (quercetin, bromelain, vitamin C) for inflammation.
A mother’s perspective and questions as her 21 year old son in college is battling UC. Doctor’s have prescribed lialda and 6-MP but the family has deep concerns with regards to side effects and how these medications will potentially effect having children.
